Labor Day Surf Session

since it was labor day i didnt have class today so we (diane, david and julia) decided to go surfing at Sunset Beach. We went to Val-Surf yesterday and rented some foam boards and some wetsuits from some other place near the beach. we got to the beach at around 7:30am, it was super foggy and the waves were only about 1-2 feet so it was pretty good for us because we were all new to surfing. surfing was super fun and i think i got it down pretty good now but the 9ft board was so much easier to catch a wave than the 7footer. but i think the best part about surfing was that we were interacting with nature and it was so peaceful. just sitting on top of the boards waiting for the waves were so surreal, and when i was actually on a wave standing, surfing it i felt like i was gliding on air or something. the feeling was incredible. but something made today 20 times better! the dolphins. while i was paddling out into the water a wave was breaking a few feet head of me and i saw a dolphin swimming in it and two dolphins were just swimming in the water so close to us it was unbelievable. ive never been so close to a real dolphin out in his world (and no seaworld doesnt count, go watch The COVE).
while me and julia were sitting on the beach taking a breather we saw a group of dolphins putting on a show for us! they were jumping flipping and just being dolphinlike!
and i guess there were alot of fish in the water close to where we were cause there were flocks of pelicans diving into the water fishing for them. it was like something out of National Geo, it was pretty impressive. i never thought surfing would bring me closer to nature. today was such a good day and i cant wait to go out there again! ...thursday anyone?
